I gave this book 5 stars because it is the first book on Lacanian analysis that actually contains some clinical guidelines and considerations.

Jeff Preston rated it liked it Oct 02, One bit of information I will mention, however, is that in going into an overview of Lacan from a clinical perspective, Fink is forced to cut some corners on the theory side of things. But Fink is really like valuable beyond measure for Lacanianism because of his dual introductions this and The Lacanian Subject and his translations and annotations of Lacan’s seminars.
While elucidating many of Lacan’s theoretical notions, the book does so from the perspective of the practitioner faced with the pressing questions of diagnosis, which therapeutic stance to adopt, how to involve the patient, and how to bring about change. He uses four case studies to elucidate Lacan’s unique structural approach to diagnosis. Arguably the most profound psychoanalytic thinker since Freud, and deeply influential in many fields, Jacques Lacan often seems opaque to those he most wanted to reach.
